...Jesus Christ! what are they thinking!
Today I read an article from the Washington Post: 'Holiday' Cards Ring Hollow for Some on Bushes' List.
Of course the first part of this that strikes me funny is the fact that no matter what he's doing, the President of the United States is going to piss someone off.
The second thing that struck me funny was this excerpt:
But the White House's explanation does not satisfy the groups -- which have grown in number in recent years -- that believe there is, in the words of the Heritage Foundation, a "war on Christmas" involving an "ever-stronger push toward a neutered 'holiday' season so that non-Christians won't be even the slightest bit offended."
So they want non-Christians to be at least a "little bit" offended? That's the Holiday Spirit!
I mean Christmas Spirit.

You'd think these folks would at least remember that Bush is sending these cards to people from all walks of life, not only Christians.
It is rude in the extreme to send a Christmas card to a non Christian, and I mean someone from a different faith who does not celebrate Christmas. The Bushes send out "more than a million" cards- there is no way they could send separate cards! That idiot who tore his up and any who think like him need to remember two things:
1. Matthew 7:1, "Judge not that ye be not judged."
2. You are not that special, even to God, let alone the President of the United States.
For once I am on the Bushes side for displaying tact!
Dawn, that's what I was looking for. It's not just political correctness...it is tact. It's taking everyone into account.
Fred, to me this whole "saving CHRISTmas" is all about proving that onyl Christians matter. So I don't think they care about anyone from a different walk of life.
"Fred, to me this whole "saving CHRISTmas" is all about proving that onyl Christians matter. So I don't think they care about anyone from a different walk of life."
This is generally true of most Christians, speaking as a former Holy Roller Child. I find also that this is a mentality of many minority groups and I think that Christians think of themselves this way. "Stop picking on me while I pick on you!"
My family is half Jewish and I am cheap! I always send out simple, cute Happy Holiday cards that have nothing of Christ on them. I do this out of respect. I could send out separate cards for two different holidays, but I am cheap and lazy. No one has complained nor tore up a card yet. I think they are so happy I remembered to send any at all they don't even notice. ;D
Must be a strange day, I am supporting Bush! The president of USA is sending out cards to all his supporters. He is not a church leader sending cards to his followers. And his supporters are of every religion (or none).
If he is hosting a special religious event, like a Ramadan dinner or Hannukah dinner, then its ok to wish those attendees. However, the holidays card should be generic.
Dawn, I've always been amazed at how Christians still insist they are the persecuted minority...but still like to make sure that (at least in America) they make up the majority of the vote.
Soon you'll find hards that just have blank spaces:
Dear Sue and John,
__(Insert your winter celebration message here and/or your favorite happy quote if you don't like winter)_________
Love from The Family.
Mezba, I think the problem is that people don't realize generic, which is what it should be when addressing almost half a country, means you can interpret it anyway you like. Just like the word "God" printed on our money can mean a Supreme Being or a rock, Holiday can mean whatever you want. The important word is the happy...they want you to be happy.
